Short, short note, Aug 10, 2009

August 10th, 2009

Very short. Am in Northern Namibia, in Rundu.   On way to Victoria Falls, Zambia. Spent past three days in Etosha, National Game Reserve. Was great. Cried to leave village.  Will miss it terribly, in spite of all I’ve written.  Have other posts to post, but have had no internet. They gave massive farewell party, [...]

Glass half-full…

July 18th, 2009

I realize that my previous entry was quite cynical and defeatist.  I should clarify; I had felt particularly overwhelmed that day, with the negatives which I am not accustomed to, and was beyond frustrated at my inability to do anything about it.  It may be difficult, at the best of times, for one to separate [...]

Beat Me, For I Am Innocent: Oh, These Ironic Christians.

July 18th, 2009

I cried at school for the first time today.  A little nine year old boy who looks six at the most, was gently brought into the teacher’s lounge by our warm-hearted secretary, Bianca, from the cold, cold air outside.  He was wearing grey wool pants and a blue collard t-shirt.  She explained to me that [...]

A Well-Wasted Sunday – July 4

July 9th, 2009

I skipped church this Sunday.  I will say that I quite enjoy going normally, for it includes me as part of the community and leaves me feeling as though I belong when the day is said and done.  But having been in a rather contemplative mood the night before, I figured Sunday morning would be [...]

Milk & Mamba – July 2nd

July 2nd, 2009

I am looking forward to “market day” at the school tomorrow.  Each class is to bring in some type of goody, that either the “learners” or teachers can purchase.  After being deathly ill with food poisoning for two days last Monday, it has been the local events that have kept me enthusiastic to be here; [...]

Black Fingers – June 19

June 30th, 2009

I woke up this 6am, watched the Namibian sun rise in front of me, and walked along a dusty road for fifteen minutes, to school on the other side of the village.  En route, I could hear little people’s feet patting along quickly against the dirt behind me, chasing to catch up and walk in [...]

From Keetmanshoop with Internet, June 15

June 15th, 2009

I write this note from a very cozy little lodge in the city of Keetmanshoop, about two hours west of Aroab, my village at present.  Although I am well aware that I have it made in my village, living in government housing and all, but I will not lie, I am quite happy to be [...]

June 12, settling in, doing well.

June 15th, 2009

Hey Everyone,
I would love to ask how everyone is doing, however, I don’t have internet more than a few moments to copy this msg I wrote in advance of connecting.  Feel free though, to send me a msg and perhaps within the next two months I will get around to reading it.    I currently write you from [...]
